Ifakara has become Bishop's Seat
On 14/01/2012, World - Africa Day, Pope Benedict XVI named the Kilombero District new "Diocese of Ifakara".

The present Diocese of Mahenge has been split into the new Diocese of Mahenge (it now comprises only the Ulanga District) with Bishop's Seat in Mahenge remaining under the leadership of Bishop Rt. Rev. Agapit Ndorobo, and the new Diocese of Ifakara comprising the Kilombero District with Bishop's Seat in Ifakara.

The first Bishop in this new diocese is Rt. Rev. Salutaris Libena, who was Auxiliary Bishop in the Arch-Diocese of Dar es Salaam. He comes from Ifakara, where his father was a teacher.
With that, the town of Ifakara has made a considerable stride into the future. Now it is both University Town and Bishop's Seat.

Bishop Rt. Rev. Agapit Ndorobo remains Bishop of the now reduced Diocese of Mahenge with Bishop's Seat in Mahenge - Kwiro.
