During the installation of the photovoltaic system, it was discovered that the main power cables supplying the hospital with electricity from the public grid (TANESCO) were severely overheated. This was because numerous new devices and stations had been connected in recent years, severely overloading the old power cables. There was an acute fire hazard.
We commissioned AG-Energies from Dar es Salaam, the company that also installed the photovoltaic system, to replace the cables. The first two cables were replaced in April 2026. During this work, it was discovered that a third cable was also severely overheated. This was replaced in a second phase in June 2026.
These works also revealed that the monitoring of the electrical system had previously been inadequate. Therefore, we commissioned Mr. Deodatus Ndunguru as an external consultant to conduct thorough quarterly inspections of the entire system for one year and to report any deficiencies. During this year, the hospital management plans to expand the in-house workshop staff with a skilled electrical engineer.
The Tyrolean state government generously supported this project financially, and the German development aid organization BEGECA organized the work and also made a financial contribution.
